Catatonia: Cavum Septum Pellucidum and Vergae, a Cause or a Coincidence?

Background: Many studies in the 20th century have reported an association between Schizophrenia and Catatonia. Structural brain abnormalities also been found many psychotic illnesses, including schizophrenia there are findings of large ventricles with chronic deteriorating psychosis. It is possible that a ventricular system may increase likelihood catatonia course. Cavum Septum Pellucidum (CSP) Vergae (CV) structural associated Schizophrenia. This case report presence persistent CSP CV patient diagnosed catatonia. Conclusion: Although several reports patients Schizophrenia, it questionable whether cause Catatonia or their occurrence mere coincidence.

We scanned 26 violent offenders and 25 controls; 2 offenders and 2 controls had CSP (8% in both groups).
